Getting to zero – finally, a choice in our hands

p2p2020 provides a choice and a platform to lead ourselves to a clean, safe future and Beyond Zero Emissions, a volunteer run community campaign, provides the plan to transition Australia to zero emissions by 2020.

Presenters
Magnus Mansie, who holds a science degree in the fields of both Oceanography and Economics and was recipient of a Vincent Fairfax Ethics Fellowship, developed the p2p2020 corporate model to deliver 100% renewable energy by 2020 owned equally by Australians who support the idea through superannuation fund investment. His studies with Nobel Laureate Mohammad Yunus’ Grameen Bank proved the inspiration for the model to empower citizens where government is unable to provide solutions.

Deane Belfield is a Certified Professional Engineer with post-graduate qualifications in both Business and Environmental Science. He has a wealth of experience delivering integrated sustainability related business and community solutions, at both the national and international level having established and lead Pricewaterhouse Coopers climate change practice since 1997 before establishing a private consultancy helping corporates and local government in emission reduction and renewable energy strategies.

Matthew Wright is the Campaign Director at Beyond Zero Emissions (BZE). BZE’s goal is to facilitate the implementation of the social changes and technologies that will reduce the impacts of climate change and give our society, and today’s global ecosystems, a chance of surviving into the future. BZE is currently working on a blueprint called Zero Carbon Australia 2020 to completely de-carbonise the Australian economy by 2020. Matt also produces a twice-weekly radio program called Beyond Zero on 3CR (855AM), during which he interviews leading world experts on climate science and solutions.

Workshop overview

p2p2020 offers a pathway that bypasses government confusion and inaction to create an environmentally sustainable and socially just transition to a 100% renewable energy system for Australia by 2020; funded, built and owned equally by participants.

Beyond Zero Emissions’ Zero Carbon Australia 2020 project is developing a blueprint for the transition to a decarbonised Australian economy by 2020. The project draws on the enormous wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise in the community to show how Australia can transition to a zero carbon future.

Together, these two organizations provide the public with a pathway to practically support a transition to a 100% renewable energy economy, bringing together the technical proof, social networking and economic pathway to deliver that success.
