Not for profits in a green economy
Do you think the Income Tax Assessment Act is only a tool for individuals to increase private profits and desecrate the planet? — it need not be so…
Presenter
Derek Mortimer, Principal of DF Mortimer & Associates, is a legal practitioner focussed exclusively on the law of not for profits and charities. Derek is based in Melbourne.
About the workshop
This is a practical workshop. Participants will gain an understanding of tax concessions and tax deductibility categories under the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 with reference to examples and caselaw such as Aid/Watch (entity involved in political activity) and Word Investments (charitable entity involved in commercial activity). In the second half of the workshop we will together generate some factual scenarios relevant to the green economy and explore how these scenarios may work as not for profit organisations under the Act. The workshop is aimed at persons involved with or considering establishing a not for profit organisation.
