Join Global Green Leaders to discuss democracy
OK, this is genuinely exciting!
As something of a democracy obsessive (have you noticed? But more and more of us are, given the state of the world today), I get to talk about democracy with some fantastic people pretty regularly. Just in the last week, I’ve had the privilege of being part of two excellent discussions that will hopefully lead to public work soon.
But next week’s webinar is right up there, and I hope you’ll join me as I discuss democratic challenges and opportunities with Marama Davidson, Frank Habineza and Elizabeth May.
Register here at no cost for the launch of the Global Greens Strengthening Democracy Network.
Formed following the Global Greens Congress in Incheon last year, the new Network will be hosting conversations to help Greens around the world face down the rise of authoritarianism, deepen our commitment to grassroots and globalist democracy, combat corruption, and work together towards a truly democratic world. We’ve been working up plans since Incheon, in conversations spanning the Asia Pacific, Africa, Europe and the Americas.
For this launch event, we are privileged to have Canadian Greens co-leader, Elizabeth May, talking about global democratic federalism, Rwandan Greens Presidential candidate, Dr Frank Habineza, discussing the challenges of building democracy against authoritarianism, and co-leader of the Aotearoa / New Zealand Greens, former Minister, Marama Davidson, taking us through her experience bringing First Nations-informed deep democratic practices into government as a Minister.
I’m deeply delighted and daunted to be chairing this conversation, as co-founder and co-convenor of the Network, and do hope that lots of you will join us for what promises to be a fabulous session.
Given the challenges of finding a time that suits Elizabeth in Ottawa and Marama in Wellington, as well as Frank in Kigali, the webinar will be at 9pm AEST, but I can guarantee it’ll keep you awake! Register here to get your zoom link and diary reminder.
